Oh, on the boil off rate-

I keep it at a very light boil, it's turning over with the occasional gush of bubbles. I'm curious if the pot I use which is 6 gallons and about twice as tall as it is wide has less surface area combined with less heat means a lighter boil off. I'd like to be able to have a higher volume boil because after racking to the fermenter and racking off the yeast I only end up with about 4 final gallons.

I recently brewed an all maris otter malt English barley wine, hopped with styrian goldings. I'm not sure if this counts, since my bittering hop was "super" styrian and aroma just regular styrians. It's in secondary now on oak.

Love SMaSH beers. Really get to see what ingredients do. I got a Munich and Northern Brewer in primary.

Nothing wrong with single hopped beers as long as every characteristic is pleasing. Tasting uses mostly NB for Janet's Brown, I believe he uses a small amount of cascade towards the end.

Munich malt is great for doing single malt beers. Last summer i did a SMaSH with munich and NZ hallertaur (1056 yeast). It turned out awesome. I really love munich malt so maybe that's why i liked it.

I think that its time to start playing with vienna malt.....
suck it

I wish I had the time and space and dedication to do that.

So this one has been in the keg for a couple weeks and it's fucking great! The sweet citrus hop flavors have mellowed a bit and it's easy drinking. Head retention isn't very good and I need to up the carbonation a little but this is a SMASH I can't wait to drink and brew again.

My Summit IPA came out pretty good. A little light on the aroma, though. It was a big hit with my beer friends. I'm going to re-brew it this weekend, but I'm upping the hops to 7 oz of Summit. Should help out with the aroma.

Are you upping the late hops, dry hops? I'm debating if and how much I'd dry hop this one.
