21A American Bitter

Mon Jul 07, 2008 6:38 pm

Does anyone have a recipe for this beer? It sounds like something I'd like to try but since I am way over in AL, it looks like I'll have to brew it myself.

Thanks

I've tried getting this recipe from Shaun before with no luck. What I can tell you having had this beer is that it's about 40 IBUs most likely with all American hops (hence the name) try cutting the hopping schedule listed for the 21A-IPA in half from the link listed above and then play with it a bit to get it up to the 40 IBUs mark. The ABV is about 3.2% - 3.6%. The color is light golden about 3-5 SRM. I think 21A uses Rahr 2-row as their base malt in most of their beers and knowing Shaun I seriuously doubt that there are any Crystal malts in this beer. Mash on the high end (156f - 158f) at about 1.5qt/lb to lend more body.

Just a guess. Shaun???

Bitter American went through five tweaked batches before it was dialed. it got better and better with each batch. I can always ask the guy that brews it. He's pretty proud of the way it came out.

Thanks. This sounds like a good start and the other thread looks like it might give me a good starting point.
