DogFish Midas Touch

Has anyone brewed the BYO recipe for this (http://byo.com/recipe/1011.html)

If you have, or have another variation I would be interested in your opinion. I am going to attempt this brew soon and would like some input. I will be doing a 5 gal all grain batch.

I recently had this on draught at a brewfest and found it a bit too sweet, but I figure I can age for a bit better result.

Time for a beer.....

Bill,
Let me know how it goes, I have it scheduled into my lineup as well. I am still picking up some of the ingredients... grape juice and safron.. I have only had it in the bottle but I thought it was friggin excellent... feel free to pm with any advice, or experiences with the recipe.

Many Thanks,
Dave

Finaly got around to making this a little while back. Should have had less homebrew and paid more attn to the recipe. I ended up dumping in the grape at knockout... racked it to the secondary this weekend. Not bad but it has a little bit of a whang to it.. almost like my very fisrt batch when I used blue ribbon malt and bakers yeast. ok not that bad.... it has nice honey aromas and the safron is nice too.

I can not remember if the dogfishhead had any of that or not... I can't remember much about the carbonation level either.. anyone had a bottle of this recently.. I can not find it in OK.

Hey Guys, I'm bottling this as we speak. Just finished sanitizing and getting ready to bottle it. I'll let you know how it turns out!

I usually keep my wang out of the beer. Usually. If I don't, there is a LOT of wang in the beer.

Well, I sort of brewed this recipe last year during the Super Bowl ... sort of.

I was splitting time between the brew kettle and the TV and completely forgot the honey. Remembered the saffron but not the honey. I decided to jst let it go as an ordinary bitter and entered it recenty as a spice beer. It won first place!

I still have the Muscat grape concentrate and some more saffron and am planning on rebrewing it soon.

Hi newbie here, I was wondering what the results of your attempts were. I'm thinking this may make a good starting point for me and a couple of friends. any pointers? Should I pick up extreme brewing witch I hear has the dogfish recipe for midas touch in it, does extreme brewing cover the basics or should I pick up a different book or is there a good website that covers all the basics? Most of all though is how difficult is midas touch compared to other brews witch might be considered good starter brews? Thanks for any input in advance.

Well....

I have brewed something similar twice now and will be trying it as it is in extreme brewing soon. Neither of the attempts I have made are anything close to DFH Midas, but are very drinkable. Going to try it one more time with the Cal Ale yeast...

IMHO, if you can get it, Allagash Victor is far superior to DFH Midas (Sorry Sam...). $90.00 for a 6 pack of 750ml here, but excellent and worth the price.
