Actually, Nut Brown refers to the color. I make a respectable Southern English Brown Ale called "Brown Nuts Ale" that has a nut like flavor along with the malty flavors and hop goodness we all enjoy. While I usually make a 10 gallon recipe, I'll halve it and see how that works.
7.5 pounds Golden Promise Ale malt
0.5 pounds British Crystal (~55L)
0.5 pounds Chocolate Malt
0.25 pounds Victory Malt
0.25 pounds Honey Malt
6 AAU's UK Goldings hops @ 60~90 minutes
1 ounce Fuggles hops @ 7 minutes
1 ounce UK Goldings @ Knockout
Ferment with Wyeast 1968 or White Labs WLP002 @ 64'F for 1 week
Chill to 30-35'F for 3 days, then add 1/2 tbs each of Gelatin and Polyclar
Package as usual after another week when beer is bright and clear
Share, and enjoy!
5% Abv, 25 IBU's
Prost!
