Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome. I live in Birmingham, Alabama. I'm a self employed contractor.

I grew up here, but spent 25 years living other places after I left high school. !5 years in the northwest (mostly Montana), and another 9 years in North Carolina...5 years on the Outer Banks, and 4 years in the mountains near Asheville.

Being single and my other 3 brew partners married, I was volunteered to be the brew-master, and my house the brewery.

We've finished 3 all grain beers, and are doing our 4th today. We're all hop heads (who isn't), and have been brewing AIPA's.

Our 1st wasn't any good, although it looked beautiful. Our 2nd was better and our 3rd (just going into the bottle) was even better.

Now we have things down pat and are ready to branch out some. We're gonna do a coffee stout after this AIPA. Then it's gonna be on to kegging, I can tell.

I listened to the full show on the BrewNetwork yesterday for the first time and loved it!! The Blues really worked good for me. We listened all day (that's central time!) and then I sat and listened to Charlie P (BrewFather/Godfather music slowly playing in the background) till the end of the show.

You guys do a great job!! I'll be listening next week and beyond! No commercial radio...yeah!

I hope the chat feature will get ironed out. I enjoyed it, until it got busy, and it quit functioning correctly for me.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Al Scott :D

Hi Al, welcome to the forum. Is that Al, as in Al-caholic?:D

Great to hear from another newbie. This is a great place for information on home brewing. I have learned so much in a short period of time. I have yet to do an all grain brew myself. Been gathering information and saving for some equptment. I'm on my 5th batch of homebrew, a partial mash stout.

What does your all grain set up consist of?

Regards,

Rob

Hey Rob,

What's up? I been popping in on a couple of other forums, and they're a great way to share information fast. It's an obsession.

Our brew setup is ghetto. Nothing fancy, really. We did buy all new though. I could have made a couple of the items, but being a contractor, and knowing the value of time, I supported my LHBS and still got a great buy.

We have the deluxe starter kit, with 2 buckets and a carboy. All the other basic stuff ($120) We added a wort chiller ($30), a 10g Igloo cooler mash/lauder tun w/ball valve and bazooka strainer ($100), a turkey fryer kit with 30 qt. SS pot ($50). A few other gadgets and that's about it. As long as you can brew outside it's not that big of a deal.

We're gonna do a Stout next brew.

I've been through Norhthern New York; it's beautiful.

Hey, good luck with the future brews. It only seems to get worse(better) the more I do it.

Feel free to pick my mind on our own real world newbie experiences.

Later,

Al

Al Dude, that is exactly the type of set up I'm shooting for. Is the 30 qt SS pot big enough for good all-grain rolling boils? I am thinking about going with a keg for a boil pot myself but I go back and forth. I plan on only doing 5 gallon batches so I was thinking 32 - 36 quarts for a boil pot.

I plan on brewing year round as I have a garage to keep out of the elements.

That's it for now.

Thanks Al,

Rob
