Small kernals from Simpson Marris Otter

Wed May 21, 2014 10:09 am

I bought a bag of Marris Otter malted by simpsons instead of Thomas Faucet like I normally do, and the kernels much smaller. I thought i might be crazy so i put them side by side, and the kernels are noticeably smaller. When i ran through my mill gapped at .036 about one out 4 kernels escaped unharmed. I tightened my gap and ran it through again, but i think overmilled it :asshat:
I envision a strong chance of stuck mash on friday.

Is this typical of Simpsons Marris otter? If so, I'm not impressed.

It's been a long time, but I think that is somewhat normal. I seem to remember the Simpsons MO just being subpar in general so I never bought it a second time.

This is probably my first and last time of buying a bag of simpson MO. My mash didn't get stuck, but it ran off pretty slow.

It's been 3+ years so my memory of it is pretty foggy. I only used a couple different types when I couldn't get Crisp. I seem to remember that Munton's was the absolute worst & Simpson wasn't much above it. The flavor just wasn't quite right either. It was MO, it just didn't have that 'pop' that I was used to getting from Crisp.
