What base beer

In your professional opinion, what would be this best base beer to add Mexican chocolate and smoked jalapenos?

Porter was actually the first thing that came to mind. Mostly because of the Chocolate. I havea tried a few Jalepeno beer and have never really cared for them.

One of the best chocolate beers I've ever tried also happened to be the best chili beer I've ever drank. Fantôme Chocolat. It's an 8% malt-rich saison with a brassy-orange hue, herbaceous and citric esters, and earthy-dark underpinnings. Cocoa powder and chili peppers easily marry into the other elements creating a smooth spectrum of flavors. Images of mole sauces ran through my head upon first taste.

I would say porter. Every time I have Stone's Smoked Porter with Chipotle on cask it reminds me how well the spice and chocolate taste in that style of beer.

I was leaning towards the porter base. Stouts are very enjoyable, but I also do not want to have the heaviness of the stout. The recipe will be posted soon
