If you are an Alt Country Fan.... Well here are some bands you have to check out...

-wilco... Obviously but check out where they came from Uncle Tupelo started it all...

-Old 97's... Rhett is the man!!!

-Jay Farrar and SonVolt must be checked out..The other 1/2 of "UT"

-Cracker rocks... I used to sit with David Lowery at Poe's Pub in Richmond.. He bought me a beer once!!

-Ryan Adams... a little too pop for me... but still good stuff!

-My Morning Jacket...

-The Jayhawks!! Ohhh the Jayhawks rock!!!

-Billy Bragg

-The Gourds... are cool... Most people know their cover of Snopp's "Gin'n'Juice"

-Drive-By-Truckers are really cool.. "ead Drunk and Naked"should be a song on the BN..

----No one knows this band... But "Ass Ponys" are the best!!! They are my favorite band!!! Check them out if you get a chance... great Cinci band!! Their song "casper's Coming Home" is probably one of the best hooks ever written!! They had a song in the movie "Empire Records" (the one where Liv Tyler looked Hot)...Called "Little Bastard" Anway... the Ass Ponys are now defuncted... couple of them have a new band called Wussy... Not as big of a fan of that band as I am of "AP"

I am kind of a Alt-Country fan!

How do you leave Gram Parsons/Flying Burrito Brothers/The Byrds (circa Sweetheart of the Rodeo) off of any list of good alt country? Blasphemy!

Also, I have never heard a better alt. country album than Jacksonville City Nights by Ryan Adams and the Cardinals. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot comes close, but not quite there. Wilco for me (like Ryan Adams I suppose) is fairly inconsistent. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and Summerteeth are SUPERB. AM and Ghost is Born......ehhhhhh.

If you are new to alt. country, the quintessential introductory album is a Gram Parsons tribute, called Return of the Grievous Angel.

If you don't think you like country, buy this album. If you think you like country, buy this album. Simply put, buy this album.
