I'm one of the swag bitches.. It makes it alot easier to get past the wife if I got an item in my hand as apposed to 'charity'.. she knows it's free..

I think we should nominate the Butchers to do a show on the off weeks.. that'd stop bitchin on two frouts.. haha.. belly up push and sven.. you know you just like the rest of us with no lives.. :D

Edit: and keep up with the pimpin money... not every week.. but ya gotta make pep's aware... or you could turn over the whole "Kick down the cash bitch" thing to brewta... he's building quite the extortion racket.. hehe.

At the very least! Hell, that's only 4166 soldiers at the less than .07/day level. Consider that there are Colonels, Rangers, Sergeants, Corporals, drive-by donors, link clickers and swag buyers we need a lot less Privates than 4166.

My whole point in starting this thread was to remind everyone that J depends on us more than we depend on him. If the BN wasn't there, our lives would go on pretty much the same. We'd miss out on tons of good information and a lot of laughs, but it wouldn't be life changing. Well, it would be for Bub he'd be calling Art Bell: "Hey, I'm so drunk. I'm the drunk of the week, damn it!". If we are not there in J's life he has major problems. He's depending on a bunch of drunken asshats to keep him going. I could tell that he really did not want to "rant" about donations on the show, but it has to be done. He's not Tammy Faye with the tears and running mascara for crying out loud! That's JP. He makes a plea and gets shit about putting on a guilt trip. (Not directed at you BrewBum) I say, if you can't afford $2 a month then you have nothing to feel guilty about. If you drive-by donate or click or buy swag, no guilt. Those who maybe should feel just a little wee bit guilty are the ones that can manage to scrape together just $2 a month and don't bother. Those are the ones I'm appealing to.

My point was not to make anyone feel bad because they can't afford $2 a month. I did not intend to minimize the clickers, drive-bys and swagers. If I'd have thought of it I would have included those in the poll.

Ranger Sheen does have a nice ring to it!

Carry on, I'm drunk of the week now. I'm calling Art Bell.

Having worked on a couple of websites in the past, producing income is difficult, to say the least. The donation model even more. There is this sense of "everything on the internet is free." Battling for advertising dollars is difficult but not as difficult as getting people to dig in their wallet. And much of the time asking for donations will sound like whining when people have that "free" mentality (but I also don't see those people working for free either.) It's a fine edged sword to walk on. J has done as well as one could when it came to this subject. Using humor and explaining how the donations will help are good. On that same note, the remarks about donators carrying the weight of those that don't was a little negative. I've also never felt pressured or guilted into supporting the BN.

J is maybe paying the bills with the sponsors and ramen and mac & cheese with the other adds/clicks and swag. This income is no less important than the donations, along the line of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs (look it up.) If those base needs are met, then the donations that will allow the BN to add additional content that will lead to BN self-actualization. As long as everyone is doing a part, even getting other homebrewers to listen to the show (especially those that may have have more expendable cash  ), it all helps.

That's one that I forgot. While it is true that additional users do cost a little money - as far as upgraded bandwidth is concerned - the potential of them becoming additional donors outweighs that cost. I tell everybody who either brews or is thinking of brewing about the BN.

Perhaps Justin can declare that the BN is a religion. There'd be a lot of tax exemptions and worshipers could tithe part of their income to the "Church" and claim it as charitable contributions:

Hell, we've already got a Pope...

But then in Germany it would be declared a Cult and banned by the government immediately. :D

Let's go for it!

I have already confessed to the Pope that I had thought about adding peat smoked malt to the community brew after reading the BJCP guidelines. My penance was to listen to 10 archives of "that other show".

Then the Pope poured some grain, hops, and yeast into his chalice and made a barleywine. Then he said, "This cup is the new testament in my blood: do this, whenever you take it, in memory of me."
