We had a small wedding of about 50 people and chose a really neat local historic inn in town. Well, we didn't know that the owner had filed for chapter 11. In the months leading up to our wedding, the paper kept running stories of how the bank was foreclosing, how he owed $100K+ in taxes, etc. Then his executive chef was arrested in a drug bust, and they found like $20K worth of crap he stole from the restaraunt: food, booze, towels, china, hell, even toilet paper!!!

We didn't know if the place was going to be in business. They shut down a month after our wedding, but they did do a wonderful job. We were sure worried though.

Try to keep it small and low stress, because the important thing is that you're there with your wonderful wife (to be) and having a party. You wont remember half of the day, so don't make yourself crazy.

Do what we did, after the wedding feed them, make some homebrew get some wine and play drinking games! Not only will they be drunk and happy they will want to go home and pass out early!

Its a win win, and the best part is getting to see your 93 year old grandmother drunk!

Well, I do have a pretty big family (dad has 11 siblings, mom has 4) and plenty of friends and fraternity brothers. It will be difficult to figure out who gets the invite...

I already tried to convince her that we should have a pot luck reception and have everyone else cook so we dont have to cater. She didn't say no... but I think her blank stare was answer enough.

We did the Vegas thing, married at the Hilton on the Bridge of the Starship Enterprise $450.

We spent all the money on our Honey moon Vegas and Florida Fly Drive.

Just had a cheap bar get together when we got back to the UK with friends and family.

I would love to get married on the bridge by a captain with Klingons, Vulcans and Ferengi as witnesses! (I am a huge Trekker).

I tried to push this idea too... she just pretended that I wasn't talking.

We tried to do ours on a budget, and for the most part succeeded. But we still spent a bit over 10k. We had about 100 ppl. The things we spent the most on were catering (around 3k) and the photography (again around 3k). We held the wedding at a community center in the local mountains I think they charged us something like $300 for the night and the use of their tables/chairs/kitchen/etc. What kept us sane throughout the whole thing was viewing it as throwing a huge party for ourselves and our friends. Not trying to throw a wedding with all the stupid rules and protocol that go along with it.

Oh yeah, and I brewed 20 gallons of kolsch for the wedding! We also served 'local' wine from so Cal. We went to several regional wineries, if we liked their wines, told them we were getting married and asked if there was some sort of deal they could give us on a few cases of wine. We bought several cases or very good wine a almost half price!
