and thats at 8 dollars an hour for child care

so thats 36 dollars per day for the current job

and thats 28 dollars per day for the new job and times them both by 3 days a week.......you tell me ??

Mrs H.,

Tell me what you think of my math.

Current Day care - $288
based on 4.5hrs * 2(kids) = 9hrs * $8/hr = $72/day * 4 days = $288/wk

New Day care - $224
based on 3.5hrs * 2(kids) = 7hrs * $8/hr = $56/day * 4 days = $224/wk

You are working to pay daycare. The only person making money is the person watching your children....

A 32 hr work week would be 4 days, 8 hr shifts.... 11:30 - 8:00am

okay john you are wrong...because you already took stuff in that i left out that didn't need to be added back in

here's my math....**WATCH OUT WORLD** LOL

CURRENT JOB
40hrs a week x's 7.25 an hour = 290 a week (before taxes and child care)

CHILD CARE WITH CURRENT JOB
4.5 hrs a day x's 8 an hour = 36 AND THEN
36 dollars x's 3 days a week = 108 DOLLARS for child care for the week
290 a week (before taxes & child care) MINUS (-) 108 = 182 TAKE HOME BEFORE TAXES

NEW JOB
32 hrs a week x's 8.47 an hour = 271.04 a week (before taxes and child care)

CHILD CARE WITH NEW JOB
3.5 hrs a day x's 8 an hour = 28 dollars AND THEN
28 dollars x's 3 days a week = 84 dollars for child care for the week

271.04 (a week before taxes and child care) MINUS (-) 84 = 187.04 TAKE HOME BEFORE TAXES

i'm making $5.04 more a week with the new job and at least i am guaranteed the 32 hours a weeek

JOHN...where u screwed up in your math....its 2 dollars an hour PER CHILD...so thast 2 x's 4 = 8....lol that why u didn't have to do it kid by kid lol...it was already figured for you ...u just wanted to add some more junk around lmao

SO THERE IT IS FIGURED FOR YOU....

Well duh! That's what you get for asking a Marine Biology Major to do math! : :D That's why I am in software now....

I thought it was 8/hr/child, not for both... sorry 'bout that....

In my opinion a steady set of hours is better than never knowing. At least you can plan that way. But you have to ask yourself if the hardship is worth the change. Lack of sleep, etc. Only you can make that decision...

If you figure in taxes which average about 38% you should bring home around bring home around 115.00, that is hopefully a number you can count on based on a constant 32hrs/week..

With school starting in the fall you will have a little more even :).

Sorry I was so confused... I have new baby on the way... Our day care (mother-in-law) is going to cost us 100/wk. If not for her it would be 180.00.

Kids 'll do that to you!
Look at the bright side, around here it's a LOT more expensive. Four years ago I was paying almost $420/week for ONE kid to be in full time (8:00-6:00) daycare, Now that he's 7 he goes to a "wrap-around" program (before and after school, 8-9AM and 3-6PM) for $370/month.
How can such small people be so freakin' expensive?!?

Daycare is freaking expensive, we are expecting in July and daycare is going to run $175 a week from a lady around the corner. Prices range from 175 to 500 a week for an infant. Course the 500 a week place has licensed teachers and a licensed nurse on staff. Which just seems insane.

Another factor in deciding on which job is hapiness. Money is important, but, if the place sucks, its not always worth it.

Father's in the cellar mixing up the hops,

When we looked at what it would cost to have our little Emily in daycare, my wife opened her own home business. She has a house cleaning business where she has employees do all of the cleanings. Now she brings home $1300 a month and gets to stay home with the baby. Sure, its not a lot of money, but it is a lot more then if she had a job and paid for someone else to watch her. My income covers most of the bills.

She had her first born, now almost 19 years old, in daycare. She would hear from the daycare people about how Danielle was using a sipicup or standing or walking with out getting to see it for herself.

Christine, the wife, is now starting a second home based business. A house organizing business that should, if it works out, let me be a stay home dad in about 4 years. That would kick ass. I could homeschool our daughter and make her do most of my homebrewing as a science class.

Its sure nice to dream.

This is a critical factor IMO. I started back to work about 3 months ago and am now in a job I despise. It makes me sick at my stomach and my blood pressure is out of control even with meds. It is all due to the stress of my job.

KC, while being Mr. Mom seems like a dream job, not everyone is cut out for it. I spent 16 months at home with our kid. And while I wouldn't trade it for anything I'm not sure I want to do it again. Just food for thought.
