Can see you've got the directions figured out. As for brunch, I'd choose Magnolia.

Enjoy SF!

Husker --

you've got the basics figured out, but navigating via the bay is nothing like "mountains to the west" (and I was born in loveland).

I still advocate ditching the car because parking around haight street usually is a PITA. If you _really_ want to see the bridge, the car makes sense. but, from magnolia you can get a cab to give you a ride across the bridge, turn around and dump you back at the rogue public house for less than the cost of a rental car. Even if you don't want to go to rogue, north beach is a pretty neat spot (cafe triest is highly recommended), and it's a short walk to 21A (20-25 minutes) or grab the stockton st bus. Check out sfmuni.com and bart.gov -- bart and bus is a good way to go. If I can free up some time on Saturday, I'll try to help be tour guide. Right now it looks like I have to work saturday morning. PM me for contact info.

Any other SF bums care to step up and help?

Wander a block from the opera house at night. Yeah. Talk about excitement.

Speaking of a great show, O'Farrell theater on O'Farrell street is a fun place to go unless you are JP. Too far of a walk from the Castro.

Thanks for all the info motor and abike2many. If anybody is interested, we'll be going to the 21A around mid-afternoon as we fly out about 7PM.

Just wanted to give a trip report:
Arrived at SFO on time and took the airport train to the rental car facility and got on the road in good time. We ended up renting a car rather than taking public trans due to the cost. Can't beat $28 for the day (thanks hotwire!)
Weather was what I expected: overcast, foggy, and light rain.
Took 101 into the city and eventually worked our way on around the bay to Fort Point - Very cool view of the bridge (even though it was still fog covered) I now understand why abike2many suggested not renting a car - the city itself isn't very conducive to getting around easily.
Did brunch at the Beach Chalet. Great views and the crab eggs benedict kicks ass! But a little too early for beer. Walked the beach a little and then went back over towards downtown.
Attempted to find parking around Chinatown, but no dice. However, given the amount of people all over, it was more than enough to simply drive through. We ended up finding parking around fishermans wharf area and walked around a bit. Yes it is a tourist trap, but fun none the less. The most intersting thing we saw there was what I believe to be a homeless man that was hiding behind a couple of shrubs that looked like they had been ripped from the ground. When people would walk by, he would either growl from within his shrub or jump up a scare the bjesus out of them. Pretty interesting to watch as he was well hidden and you really didn't notice that the shrubs were sitting on sidewalk until he moved.
Following fishermans wharf, we worked our way around the Embarcadero toward 21st Amendment. Saw a group of very militant looking lesbians that were protesting the war. All I could think of certain scenes from PCU!
Got to 21st Amendment and finally found a parking space. All I can say is Excellent! From service to the food to the beer (not necessarily in that order) everything was great. The watermelon wheat and IPA were fantastic! ShaunO was not available to meet and thank for his great beer and work with the TBN, but none the less, it was a great time.
From there went back to the airport for an uneventful flight out.
Thanks again for all the help from everyone.

The world famous bush man, he's been doing that gig for YEARS. Sadly he wasn't working last time I went passed.
