American amber ale out of "brewing classic styles"

Tue Mar 19, 2013 4:36 am

Anybody brewed it? Going to do it this weekend. Sounds like a bigger beer than what i normally like, but I have 2 session beers right now conditioning.

Is anybody else on this forum new to brewing? Just curious.

Yep, brewed it.
And Im willing to bet there are 1 or 2 folks here, new to brewing.
Now start drinking those sessions, to make room.

Ive got my eye on this recipe also, I've got the APA in the fermenter right now given it a taste and it is turning out really well. I did use Armarillo that I had already instead of the Centennial hop additions.

:jnj
Bottled: fresh hop pale ale
On tap: Moose bile strong ale
In the cellar: Taqu'il's Fat Black Imperial Stout
Lagering:
In the fermenter: Moose drool clone
In the works: Taqu'il's Fat Black Imperial stout

I wouldn't be concerned about whether any beer recipe from brewing classics styles is good of course unless you don't like the style.. They are all award winning recipes.

It did turn out well. I used a different yeast, though. I went with an Abbey ale yeast and it was pretty darn tasty.
Like stated above- all of those recipes are solid. I havent made them all, but I have made 10 or so of them.
Janets brown is probably my favorite out of that book. The blonde ale is good, too. So are the porter and the oktoberfest
Cheers and good luck!

I’ve brewed the American amber a couple of times. It’s solid.

There are one or two extract recipes in BCS that suffer the normal shortfalls of recipes converted from all grain to extract. Otherwise I love that book. I’ve brewed about two dozen of the recipes either extract or converted to mini-mash. I’ve been really pleased with them.

The American Amber ale is a great recipe, but I really like JZ's West coast blaster. The grain bill is delicious and at around 7% Abv it helps with the evening forgetfullness.... :drink
