Latest New Belgium Lips of Faith Releases

Fri Nov 04, 2011 5:42 pm

Just got back from a tapping party for two new New Belgium Lips of Faith brews. The first was the Prickly Passion Saison. It felt a little awkward telling the male bartender that I was in the mood for a little Prickly Passion but that passed rather quickly once I tasted it. This is a wonderful beer. Nice subtle prickly pear taste along with a bold passion fruit flavor. Beautifully balance brew. 8.5% ABV but it drank like a session beer. Very dangerous stuff! Very easy to drink more than your limit on this one. If you want to get your woman quickly drunk so you can take advantage of her, get her this beer.

The next beer was their fresh hop IPA. The brewers flew to Washington to collect the hops for this beer and truck them back to Colorado. The keg I tried was kegged on Wednesday and I drank it on Friday. Best fresh hop beer I ever had. None of the grassiness I normally associate with fresh hopped beers. Brewed with Cascade, Centennial, and Columbus hops. None of the cat piss taste I normally get with Simcoe or Citrus. Great aroma with a wonderful blast of hop taste into your mouth without being overly bitter.

The evening was made even better when the brewery rep gave me a great t-shirt and an even better glass. :)

In short, I recommend both of these beers.

Great write-up ... any ideas on if NB is planning on bottling and distributing these? I'd love to taste the prickly passion ... plenty of those here in the desert.

I saw these in bombers in a local store just the other day. If you normally get New Belgium in your area you should be able to get these soon.

we had the prickly pear at our club meeting last week, wasn't a real fan of it, one guy said it tasted like cactus.

had a taste of the Prickly Passion last night and i liked it. However this was after a blended Double Bastard and Vertical Epic 11.11.11 and Laurelwood Gearhead IPA.

I tasted mostly clove and a little farm funk in the nose. but it was fairly dry and i can see myself drinking at least 3.... Good stuff.
