Dog's ear infection due to drinking beer?

Fri May 20, 2011 3:00 pm

I had to take my dog to the vet today. I noticed he was shaking his head a lot and his ears were bothering him. Come to find out he had a ear infection in both ears. The doctor seemed to think it was some sort of yeast infection.

About a week ago, my dog was licking up some of the beer that had leaked out of the keggerator on to the floor.

Is it possible that the beer gave my dog an ear infection? Or just water in his ears from a bath?

Has anyone heard of beer causing yeast infection in a dog's ears?

Oh yeah, I also just read that hops are poisonous to dogs!

Totally different kind of yeast. Beer not to blame.

I think there is a Session where Justin talks about a med that he gives Bisquit for her terrible gas... The meds were full of brewers yeast, and lacto. Kinda cool :)

Nope. Most likely your dog has allergies or got some water trapped in his ears leading to the infection. They have yeast and bacteria living on their skin (just like we do) and when something disrupts the balance it leads to an infection.

Did you recently give him a bath? My dog will occasionally get one after a bath because water gets trapped in his ear canal. You have to make sure to dry their ears out really well afterwards.

My daughters gave him one. I'm wondering if he got water in his ears.
