My sister is a kindergarten teacher so I'm going to take the sheets to her and see if they can be deciphered :)

Anyhow (in my fit of rage against sloppy handwriting) I forgot to mention one of the beers to get a 40 something was Tasty's JBA - made it the second round but no medal this time. Sorry Tasty!

Most score sheets now include the judge's email address. Scan your sheet (or even take a picture with a digital camera) and email them a copy with a request for translation.

Sometimes the words come faster than the hand can move, so things get a little scrawly while trying to get all the information out and on paper before it disappears. There is also the time pressure of trying to judge each beer in ~10 minutes. Speed, neatness, completeness: pick any two?
What's on tap: Cream Ale, Imperial Blonde
Secondary: British Amber,
Primary: APA

The main key here is that we should be getting more people out judging at competitions so that judges have smaller flights, can take their time judging, and write something that is readable. some questions that should be posed to the author of this tread are:

1) Is it a local competition?
2) Have you judged at a local competition?
Cheers!

Given the timing and the reference to a second round, it must have been Blue Bonnet.

I can appreciate the condensed schedule judges have and the shortage of judges obviously makes matters worse (I wasn't aware there was such a shortage of judges until now). I did find someone who could read the results and overall they were helpful. As to your questions:

1. It was the Bluebonnet but DFW is pretty large and spread out, I'm out in the sticks, have a wonky work schedule and hate driving (would've been about 3 hours round-trip if I hadn't had to work).

2. I'm going to try to get out and help with the next judging (or whenever my stupid work schedule allows). I keep pretty decent notes on all the beer I drink, have a decent palette despite my lack of BJCP-ness and have beautiful penmanship :)

Honestly I wasn't trying to be a prick about the comp. or the judges or anything; just blowing off some steam about trivial bullshit.

+1, Bdawg. I see there is one coming up in Minneapolis in a few days. I think I will study up and shoot for the one in December. Awesome links.

Thanks-

Keep in mind that these classes fill quickly. You need to contact the exam administrator(s) and get on their list. I have 2 exams that are chock full going out to November. The waiting lists are 4 deep and 9 deep respectively. Even though you may end up on a waiting list, you should plan to take the exam anyways. The exam is tough, and studying for it is a rather large commitment. LOTS of folks go in with the best of intentions but end up cancelling in the last weeks before the exam. We had an exam here recently that started with a 5 or 6 person waiting list (on top of the 12 person primary list), then by exam day only a handful (4) were left to actually take it. I am going to register another exam for the Seattle area in 2012, but I am looking at July or later already, as the earlier months are all filled up.
