1968 yeast clump?

Mon Apr 04, 2011 6:06 am

Gota starter of 1968 yeast going on the stir plate. Not familiar with this yeast. Mine is clumped and looks like cottage cheese swirling in the flask. Normal for this strain? Been going 1 day on the stir plate.

That yeast is ready to eat again. Coolest scene on a stirplate.

I've used this yeast several times. It has attitude and will finish quickly. Very fun to watch in a glass carboy.

yes that is absolutely normal. Makes great beer. It may appear to have dropped bright before it has really finished so make sure you take gravity before transfering it to keg or bottle. Its nice to have absolutely crystal clear beer before it even leaves primary.
On Deck: Bier de Garde, Northern German Pils
In Fermenters: Homegrown Pale Ale
in keg: Octoberweizen, Dusseldorf Alt
