Welcome fellow Louisianian! I'm a bit south of you but there are a few of your neighbors around here. I'm sure Charlie, positiverpr, or Bayoubrew will pop in to say hi. They are the Malt Munching Mash Monsters http://www.maltmunchingmashmonsters.com/ Check them out if you haven't already. I've only met Charlie in person and he wasn't too douchey
Haha... I feel dumb! I was in a wine and premium beer store and was asking about brew clubs... He said "you ever heard of the Mums?" I guess meant the MMMM's... I'll have to look these folks up!... Where you from 0006?
Lafayette, LA lived here all my life. We have a club, The Dead Yeast Society, we have about 30-40 active members. We are supposed to do a Louisiana club-only competition every year but the BR club dropped the ball for 2010.
The BN is badass for info and getting your questions answered usually very quickly. But check out MMMM, they do some great things as a club, and it's always fun to have people to talk beer with when your other friends/spouse get tired of it
My wife could care less about beer!... I guess that's why I need a group... I've heard of your club and have stumbled onto yalls site before! I should prob get in touch with these guys...
hey jbug. we have a good-sized homebrewing community developing here. thanks 0006 for passing along the info. check out our site. we served 140+ gallons of homebrew 2 weeks ago at the second annual BREW festival and you just missed our first oktoberfest this saturday. this coming saturday is the "teach a friend to homebrew" day. next tuesday there is a club meeting and we'll begin dissecting some beer styles. first up is oktoberfest/marzen. i'll be bringing a homebrewed example and we'll have 3 or 4 commercial examples. hope to see you soon and just to be fair there is another homebrew club in shreveport -SUDS.

Thank you, too much!
If you're in the Shreveport/Bossier area check out http://maltmunchingmashmonsters.com/phpBB3/index.php. The Malt Munching Mash Monsters are hosting Learn to Brew Day Saturday November 6 at 12:00 noon in the Shreve Island area. We expect 25 to 30 attending, and will demo all-grain and extract brewing. The grill will be fired, so bring something to burn and something to share.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday Nov 9 at 6:30 PM at a member's house close to Centenary college, and we will discuss, dissect and sample, various examples of Oktoberfest.
We're child friendly. My 16 year old will be assisting with the all-grain demo. PM me for the details.
Charlie
