Irish Moss or Whirlfloc still necessary with gelatin?

So, I went to brew today and realized I was out of whirlfloc. Unfortunately the town I just moved to is very lacking in supplies at the LHBS. I'm wondering if fining with gelatin has the same affect as end of the boil fining. I seem to remember hearing that they act on different compounds in the beer, but I'm not sure about this.

From what I understand whirfloc helps the break flocculate after flameout. Gelatin binds with solid material, causing it to fall out of solution quicker. So they do different jobs.
