Millenium Hops????? anyone tried them

Tue Jun 15, 2010 3:47 pm

G'day BN'ers,

A homebrew shop had a balls up when packaging up my order so instead of Magnum I got some Millenium (it was craftbrewer in Queensland and they are sending me some Magnums no charge so alls good) but now I've got some Millenium at 14.4% AA.

So far I know they are a nugget columbus cross and are mainly for bittering. Appart from that keen to hear anyone's experience with them?

Cheers DK

Isn't that what Mikkeller used in the 1000 IBU beer?

The brewery I'm working at uses it for bittering in their IPA and Imperial IPA. It seems to be a great, fairly neutral bittering hop. Seems like it would sub out fine for the magnum.

I have even used them as a bittering hop for a Belgian Tripel. They are fairly neutral for Bittering.

Same here. I used them as bittering in a pale ale and an IPA

Thanks guys, looks like they'll be finding their way into an IPA or 2 latter in the year

I use them as my "standard" bittering hop - nice and clean (cleaner and less harsh than the nugget/columbus they are bred from IMHO) and with an adjustment for AA% I directly sub them into any recipe that calls for Magnum or Northern Brewer or any of the other relatively "clean" bittering hops. I have even used them in light lagers and such like beers with good results.
