Filtering water for brewing

Fri Jan 01, 2010 12:08 pm

I am getting tired of lugging 15 gallons of water from my kitchen to my garage for brewing. I do have a hose connection in my garage. Does anyone have any experience with using a poly filter to filter the water directly into the HLT? (Using the appropriate hosing of course)

Assuming you have no chlorine/chloramine issues with your water and it is otherwise fit for brewing, you should have no problem with it.

I use a homemade version of this. http://morebeer.com/view_product/16762//Water_Filter_Kit_-_10_inch

I made the vinyl hose connecting to the faucet lots longer, so I can set the filter right next to the HLT and fill it up. I use a a carbon filter, just going after the chlorine and leaving all the minerals mehind. Carbon filters are cheap, like $8 for at least a year of brewing.
