A bale of Amarillo whole hops!

Thu Apr 20, 2006 7:10 pm

While some took time out to celebrate the cousin national smoking day( Four-twenty DUDE!) I took the time to bail out on class and visit a local brewery that I hadn't visited. I am glad I did because I found out that they use whole Amarillo hops and they sell them to the public (and $8 a lb). I also found that they sell grain to homebrewers and will give(free) you a quart of yeast (if cellarpersons on duty) if you bring a sanatized jar. I have lived here almost 6 years and have been missing out all this time.

I almost forgot the Amarillo hops, they were busting open a new bale when I got there. It was an awesome site and I bought some straight from the bale. I am not sure what yeast strain they use, but I am hoping to find out more tomorrow.

Well I wasnt until I started calculating I will be saving $0.20 a lb on 2-row pale and a considerable amount on certain hops. I will still be doing regular B3 orders due to the great variety they offer. Just nice to support local business and nice to know they support local homebrewers. I would give them a shameless plug but I probably will.

Went back today and picked up 60lbs of 2-row, 4lbs Carapils for $29. I also got almost a full quart of thick white yeast for FREE!
