Also I think it matters what yeast you use. Maybe something a little more estery like an English strain would be in order?

Columbus wasn't always this way IMO, but I've certainly found the last two crops to be very fruit punch-like when used as an aroma or dry hop. In fact, it even added a hoppy sweetness to my DIPA recently.

I get distinct kumquat from Riwaka. Amarillo is the most tropical to me; I get apricot and pineapple.

i really like riwakas too. i can honestly say ive never had a kumquats so i dont know the flavor, but riwakas really reminded me a smoother centennial.

as for what im going to use based on my experiences and recommendations from this thread....

1oz each Summit and Simcoe FWH
1oz Summit 15 mins
.5oz Amarillo 15mins
2oz Simcoe KO
.5oz Columbus KO
1oz Summit DH
2oz Simcoe DH
.5oz Amarillo DH
.5oz Columbus DH

I figure Ill focus on the Summit and Simcoe as the core, with the amarillo and columbus just adding a little something in the background.

remember, this is an IPA and not a DIPA.

I tried the a few hops for the first time Saturday:

Riwaka- (5.5%AA) the aroma reminded me of an English hop, but it's a Saaz derivative... we'll see how it tastes.
NZ Cascade- (9.1%AA) was incredibly citrusy in aroma... a bigger, cleaner aroma than US Cascade.
SuperAlpha- (13.3%AA) just plain old clean hop aroma
NZ Hallertauer Aroma (7.1%AA) Turbo strength Hallertau with some citrus along with it

We'll see how they taste in the finished beer.
