I'm just about to finish up my first keg of this. I brewed it with exactly the same grain bill, used wlp002. I changed the hop schedule significantly as I did a single hop (all galaxy) and all of it in the last 20 minutes. Did 1 ounce at 20, 1 ounce at 10 and 1 ounce at 5. Calculated IBU's around 40. Dry hopped with 2 ounces of galaxy for 4-5 days.

Freaking awesome. Love the grain bill, love the sessionability (is that a word?). Already have the grains waiting for the next brewday.

I'm thinking this is going to be a mainstay in my kegerator. I think it's an awesome way to experiment with hops also. My next batch is going to replace the galaxy with a mix of citra and cascade. I could see keeping this recipe the same but changing out the type of hops each time for some very different beers.

Great recipe tasty, and In your signature line it says you are brewing up a JBA light? what's that about, can you share that? Janet's Brown is one of my favorite beers, and i'd love a session version of it.

When I developed this recipe, I didn't use the same hop bill twice. Although I always made sure that half the IBUs were imparted 20 minutes are closer to flameout and whirlpool.

The JBA lite will be a takeoff on this Session Pale. Same concept. Lot's of body and malt character.

Just tasted a hydro sample last night and the dry hop really makes this beer! I also am very partial to centennial. yum, kegging tomorrow.

hey tasty, would you say the pilsner malt has a significant effect on this recipe? thinking of brewing this up in the near future, but wondering if I should wait until I have some pilsner on hand. also, what would your thoughts be on using wyeast 1272, or wlp051 with this beer? thanks! :jnj

Both those yeasts should work fine. The Pilsner malt is there to add more malt character. I also feel it helps the beer dry out but that's just my experience. I think you'd be fine without it.

Just took my first sample, this is a fantastic beer. Nice work again Tasty!

I used WLP090 and I also ran it through my hopback.

I brewed the Session Pale at Half Moon Bay Brewing Company in Half Moon Bay, CA. We overshot the OG so it came out at 4.4%. It's been a huge hit everywhere it's been poured and is the arguably the best Session IPA in this market. The "hipsterized" Tasty image has been a big hit too.
