Back when I was a newb I was doing a partial boil extract batch on the kitchen stove. I was making an IPA and had just barely gotten a good rolling boil going when my brew buddy went out for a smoke. I had just barely got a kitten for my daughter and the damn cat ran out behind him. I live on a pretty busy road and dead cats on the road are a common sight so I freaked out and my buddy and I spent about fifteen minutes chasing down the stupid animal when both of our drunk asses realized we had a beer boiling on the stove. Rushing back in with the damn animal in tow we found about 3/4 of a gallon of hot sticky wort burning to the stove top and quite a bit on the floor. Not knowing what else to do we added more water, DME and hop pellets and returned everything to a boil just kind of guesstimating our losses. By this time it was real late and we were both sauced up pretty good. So my buddy went to smoke again... Needless to say that infernal beast got out again. With complete disregard to what had happened earlier we started the chase again. I'm sure you can all guess what happened! This time luckily we came to our senses a little quicker and said fuck the cat and rushed back into save the beer which again was boiling over. This time it was a lot less drastic and we just decided to go with it. The beer (which we dubbed "Cat Ran Away IPA") actually turned out pretty good when all was said and done, although I had no clue as to the specs on it. To think I could have avoided all of this trouble by sticking a damn lime peel on the cats head!
