temp control in dorm fridge?

I have a spare dorm fridge and a temp control unit and I would like to do temp control fermentations so that I can brew more in the summer. The only problem is that I have one of those dorm fridges that have the bump in the bottom for the compressor so a typical 5 gallon bucket won't fit. Has anyone used (or know of) other fermentation vessels that can be used in this type of fridge to hold close to 5 gallons?

Take off the plastic shelving on the inside of the door and it should fit. I use a dorm fridge and ferment in carboys.

I have one of the smaller dorm fridges that I couldnt turn into a kegerator (turned out alright since I scored a $40 full size off craigslist). I ended up having to remove all the shelving and cut out some of the plastic shelving supports on the door to form to a carboy because the door wouldnt shut. Works fantastic now and I can easily get it down to any temp I want with low heat dissipation. If I get the motivation I'll post pics.

Has anyone had experience removing the the little freezer shelf in the top of these types of fridges or are you all leaving them in?

Be careful, that little shelf is usually the colling element.

leave it in, if you bend it the wrong way or too much you will pinch the coolant line.

Sheen is right, the shelf is often the cooling line. I've read of people bending them out of the way, but you have to be VERY CAREFUL not to kink or break the line. If you can get the carboy to fit without touching the shelf... leave it alone.
