If I had an extra $300 laying around, I'd set up another freezer to control my fermentation temperatures. Or I'd go to the boobie bar. Either one would be good.

all grain w/ a grain mill is a good choice after the fermentation temp control. If I were you since you already have the 15 gallon BK I would go with a 12 gallon HLT and another burner to leave you room in the future to build a sculpture with them.

another 15 gal pot, a burner and a mill. that should leave you with some money to buy some grain. that should easily get you to all grain in comfort. or, you could upgrade my kegerator. i need two shanks and one more ventmatic faucet. just an idea. later, drew

i know, i said "two shanks"

OK, Now which type of Grain Mill

Fri Jun 06, 2008 5:18 am

I actually have temp controlled fermentation. Actually, the basement I use stays in a 62 - 68F window almost all year, it gets a bit cooler in the winter months. But when I need it, I use the stand up fridge right now. I can hold 1 6.5gal carboy and 4 cornys at fermentation temps, and can lager by way of the chest freezer, at least until I can talk the wife into a cold storage area like JZs 8) . Then I will use the chest freezer for another temp controlled fermentation area.

Back to the grain mill, I found some good info. But, any opinions as to whether a 3 roller mill is worth the extra money over a 2 roller mill. I already have all of the pulleys, belts and motor (from work) to motorize it right off the bat. I was looking at the Crankandstein/Monster Mills.

I was wondering the same thing... Any 3 rollers out there?

I changed the title here to focus this a little bit, and hopefully get some help for me and Mylo.

I know there are a bunch of people with the Barley Crusher because I saw the thread about them recently. What I am wondering, is the added cost worth it for the 3 roller mills, like the CrankandStein or Monster Mill. Seems to me what you really gain is a double crush, one at 060 to open the husks some and then an adjustable gap to give your real crush. IS this the only real plus to a 2 roller?

Also, on the 2 roller mills, are the parallel gap adjustable rollers all non-geared slave type, or does anybody sell a geared parallel gap unit.

I am really after getting a mill that is going to last me for the rest of my brewing days.

Thanks again to all for your help.

Bump.

There are some good comments in this thread; does anyone have any other good info on the different makes/models and their pros and cons?
