Plumbing Propane on a 3 tier/3 burner sculpture

Mon May 12, 2008 4:58 pm

I am working on my first sculpture. It is a 3 tier gravity system and I am putting in 3 burners on it. I have 2 banjo burners and another high out put burner. I want to put the 30psi regulator on the tank, but I want to be able to adjust each flame independently. Can run the propane thru the 30 psi regulator, split it into thirds (using black iron pipe and fittings). Can I connect the 10psi regulators to the pipe and use them as controls? This would give me the the independent control and let me use the flexible hose that came with each burner. Does that make sense? or would I need to buy 3 gas valves and put them on the black pipe.
Thanks

Mine is a work in progress, waiting on the other 21 jet burner.
For now I'll be using this with a standalone burner for the brew pot.
I hope to have a third burner built on next month.

I use ball valves, they work just fine. The coppper is a pilot light.
Just be sure and use the yellow teflon tape.

Good luck,

I would put the 30psi on the tank, then flex to the black pipe. Put a Needle Valve on the pipe at each burner position, and then flex to the burner. The needle valves will give you all the pressure/flame control you need. At least that's what I have done and it works great.

Here is how I plumbed my old 3 tier. I used ball valves which work but they are not as easy to control as needle valves.

I mounted the burners on metal plates that was adjusted on two lengths of allthread.

So I got my burners. I have two banjo burners as well as a slightly smaller bayou classic burner (for the mash tun). I also got these needle valves to control each burner

hope the link works
I want to build a manifold of 3/8 inch black pipe then connect the valves to the manifold then run flexible hose to the burner. I am having trouble finding the correct fittings at the Home Depot. Can anyone help me with some ideas and good sources?

I am also going to run a 30 psi regulator into on the tank with a hose running to the manifold.

Check with your local heating and air conditioning supply house. They will tell you that they are for contractors only but, 9 times out of 10 they will make private sales. They are guaranteed to have what you need, plus they can help you find they parts you may not know you need.
