Ranco temp controller wiring

Tue Apr 17, 2007 4:50 pm

Hey everyone,
I've been lurking about while slowly getting back into brewing and have a question. I'm sitting with a few Ranco electronic temperture controllers but no instructions. Does anyone out there have directions on using one of these? I've got a pile of stuff to build a 3 tier system but am hung up on wiring, what are these things capable of doing? How many do I need?
Thanks for any help.

You may need 0, 1 or 2 depending on how much work you want to do. You will probably want 1 on the mash tun, especially if your want to run HERMS. You MAY want one on the HLT if you want to run a digitally controlled HLT.

They work by setting a temp and a differential (a range of temps) They controller applies power when the temp is reached or it can apply power until the temp is reached. It's just a fancy way of controlling an item based on temp.

Thanks, that should get me started. Anyone got a copy of the operating instructions for the Ranco?
Thanks again

If you go here, scroll to near the bottom of the page and click on the installation instructions to download.

Here's a little block drawing for a Love controller. Very similar.

Need to revive this thread...

I am wiring up a Renco ETC 1110000. I followed the directions included and the step-by-step provided at http://pumpkinpicker.auburnbrewclub.org ... -rheostat/.

But, the thing will not power on. Is there something I missed or some way I can test to see if the unit is defective; no burnt smell and no response at all when plugged in, so I don't think I fried anything.

Thanks.
