Single level stand question about pumping fluid into kegs

OK, Jay. I have taken your plumbing plan and incorporated a couple of new features that I think might be work trying out:



I added water filter and bypass (while cooling). I added a couple of drains for the lines, and I have a new idea about the "output towers". While your two valves per tower is simple and straightforward - I'm thinking it might be overkill. It's just a flexible tubing routing issue at that point. I have one valve per output - but here is the deal - I want to put them right next to each other, spaced just wide enough for the handles to operate. Then I can put some vertical pins on the end of the handle - and drop on a little bar that will connect the two (removable). That way the two handles will work in tandem (flow rate sync - DONE!) during the sparge. I also am not sure about the benefit of the tower itself - I might just plumb them right in the front of the base and use flexible tubing to get anywhere I need to.... thoughts?

I do like the inline thermometer on the wort line, I might put one on the water line, too.

Problematic in practice, though. Unless the length of tubing in your water and wort lines are the same, the flow rates will be different b/c of tubing restriction. I didnt think it would be a big deal, since all of my tubing & copper is 1/2", but you know what, it does make a difference. I think the major culprit is the CFC itself. Anyhow, to match flow rates during sparge I find that my water line valve has to be open much more than my wort line. One I get them set I can walk away, but linking them probably isn't going to work for you as a practical matter...

I like your filtration pass through - but just make sure you find a way to purge air from the lines. I backfill the MT and HLT for strike by attaching my filtration line to the out valve on top of the return arms. Purging all the air out of a filter might prove to be somewhat of a PITA, and seeing as how your filter line is open to the water pump, you might bleed a few air bubbles and kill your prime. That would be a big ass headache in the midst of a brewday...

Excellent point, Jay! Didn't even think about that. It seems like such a fantastic idea (to me, anyway...) - maybe I can put an "extra" ball valve on the wort line as some sort of calibration that I can leave set once I get the flow rates matched... or I'll just put my helment back on and get back on the bus...
