Tasty McDole's 7 Day Wheat

Mon Jan 28, 2008 4:32 pm

Anyone have Mike's 7 day week recipe. I have a pound of glacier hops I want to try and I believe it calls for this hop exclusively. I have brewed some of Mike's other beers and based on these other recipes I have high expecations.

Congratulations on having a pound of hops. A year ago that wouldn't have been any big deal.

I have a Glacier version somewhere but can't seem to find it. Not to worry, I'm sure it would say 50% wheat and 50% two-row with an OG of around 1.052 which I would hop to about 20 IBU with at least some of the Glacier added at 10 minutes before flame-out. Higher OGs will take longer than a week. This is an American Wheat so I use a good sized WLP001 starter and ferment at 65F-66F. To showcase the Glacier aroma, you may want to consider dry hopping when the ferment is 80-90% complete. That could be the third or fourth day.

Thanks Mike. I also have quite a bit of Magnum hops in the freezer. Would you recommend using this clean bittering hop for the 60 min additoon and saving the Glacier for the later additions?

Sure you could use the magnum for bittering. You may want to increase the IBU contribution from the late Glacier addition(s) to make sure you get that Glacier taste and aroma.
