Another great idea is to use a milk crate, & put the carboy inside it. Mine will hold a 6.5 gal carboy with no problems. Make sure you get a real milk crate, & not those fake ones the big box stores sell.

What do you all think about spraying the outside of the carboy with rubber under coating. You know, that stuff for wheel wells, I have considered it, but never really think about it while at the hardware store.

umm, can't say I would go through that kind of trouble.
But, what ever creams your twinkie, LTB, go for it. If it works well, let us know, if it doesn't work let us know.

I painted the bottom of some of my carboys with something called
"Plasti-Dip". It puts a thick rubberized coating on the glass. It works ok for preventing dings & such, but it won't prevent breakage.

TF-yeah I know that stuff. I would do it with the intention of preventing breakage. I think it would prevent pitting and dings that fatigue the glass.

I use glass for the simple reason that it's MY BEER. I cannot imagine drinking it out of plastic and somehow it just doesn't seem right brewing it in plastic. Silly, I know, but there you go!

I was listening to the last show and the talk of carrying carboy so I thought I would bump this back to the top of the forum. I haven't made any of my carriers for a while, but I have one for every carboy I have and I love them.

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.
