So I get to work this morning to find that someone dropped off a big container of honey roasted planters peanuts. Of course then my mind got thinking about this recipe again and started to wonder. Rather than using regular dry roasted peanuts, why not roast HR peanuts, that way you would get some of the sugars and honey in the peanuts and some carmelization as well? thoughts? ideas?

And I may try the PB2 if I feel like ordering 4 jars of it. Otherwise I'll just drain oil off of natural peanut butter (PB1?) until it's more or less dried out.

Mr. Dickens, have you brewed this yet? Im giddy like a school girl to hear how it turned out, or to see if we have to tweak it some more.

just noticed this topic. . .you might want to try making a PB extract tea with that one stuff Bug suggested to get an idea of the flavor intensity.

I haven't brewed this yet and I actually forgot about this post. Oooops. Anyway, I am due to try this one next, but it might be a week or two until I get to it. I think I am going with the PB2 though as I think it has most of the oils pressed out so it shouldn't cause that big of a problem with the head retention. If it doesn't work then maybe it has to be extracts next time. I don't know.

Anyway, I will definitely update after I make it. I was going to wait a few weeks, but I know my wife is excited for it and I want to try it... I just need some more equipment first. Like, a burner and kettle. :)

I bottled the 1 gal batch i made today. Not sure how she'll turn out yet, but I'll post the results when its done. It had a nice nutty smell with some chocalte hints, i'm curious to see the final result. If it doesnt turn out using raosted peanuts, i may find some of the extract and try it that way.
p.s-go light on the chocalte malt, i went a wee bit over and its a bit darker than I wanted. I was also scaling down to 1 gallon batch sizes too.

I tried this brew last night and was pleasantly surprised. I was a little skeptical about the brew and the head retention from the litttle bit of oil left in the peanuts. But I was proven wrong. The head retention was excellent and nice and smooth on the tongue. My only gripe with the brew was it didnt have the PB taste as much as i wanted, it wasnt even noticeable. I think usig the PB extract would help with this and make a fantastic brew. Maybe even lighten up just a hair on the chocolate malteast in my recipe. Definately worth a try for all you risk takers;)

Peanut Butter in beer!

Wed Dec 05, 2007 3:40 am

hey, sorry guys but Im from aus and the thought of peanut butter in a beer sounds disgusting! I hear that there are some commercial versions with peanut butter in the US, is this true? Does the oil from the nuts cause a problem with head retention? Do the peanuts really taste good? sorry but im going to need some convincing here. Ta
