Exploding Carboy

Wed Oct 24, 2007 6:56 am

A guy I work with and a member of this board (Terabrew i think) has been missing for a while... just got back to work today.
During the cleaning of a Glas Carboy it EXPLODED in his hands... not shattered EXPLODED! I am not one to be reactionary and the story is a bit longer than just that but suffice it to say that BE CAREFUL. This guy is in for 3+ months of rehab because of this and later today I can post some pics of this guys mangled hands, Folx if you have a weak stomach this won't be great viewing mmm kay!
This guy is a programmer (consultant) and typing is his life, he seems pretty upbeat about it right now but he is a bit mad that it screwed up his otherwise perfect first all grain batch.

So while this probably will not stop me from using glass YET, it will remind me to just let that bitch go if it starts slipping, and perhaps when I get some more cash to start using cornies to ferment in.

WOW!

Does he know what made it explode? was it a crack or something? This is insane, and your right Bub I am not normally a reactionary guy but that does scare me as I am a software developer too. Well anyways I think I am going to look at Fermenting in a corny now too....

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.

It was full of sanitizer (probably a good thing) and started slipping as he was draining it. He knew it was gonna hit the floor he was just trying to slow it. The instant it touched the ground (not very hard BTW) it just went. I know there are guys here that have claimed this forever and won't even look at glass, I can't say I blame them. Like I said earlier not gonna stop me yet, but I will be more careful that's for damn sure.

Yeah it only cut 4 tendons... (2 each in the fingers that are all curled up)
Not too big a deal. I wonder if we are gonna hook him up with one of those "suck `n' blow" things to work his computer.
