Sanyo 4912 kegerator question

Sun Apr 29, 2007 7:11 pm

I just purchased a Sanyo 4912 and have some questions on how to convert to a kegerator.

What size hole saw do I need?
Is the 4912M the same as previous models in that I can drill a hole in the top?
What parts do I need to install a tower(other than the tower itself)?

I don't think there is any standard answer to your question. You need a drill big enough to make the right size hole... that hole is simply big enough to pass your beer lines through. Before drilling in your fridge, I'd cut away the inside plastic and foam to make sure there aren't any lines. I've heard that some fridges have them and some don't even though they are the same model #.

Same time and energy and read the link MT gave, it shows how to use corn starch/vodka mixture to find any lines in the top. Many folks have done this with the Sanyos and not had problems.

Or you could do taps in front and not have to worry about cutting any holes or cooling the tower.

Ok, I'm a douche. I seached for this after I cut the hole in top of my Sanyo 4912.

When I cut the hole I heard a hissing sound that stopped after about a minute. :( I didn't see any lines in what I drilled out (1-1/4" hole), so I told myself "the insullation must be under pressure." After reading the link Lars provided I think I have partially cut the cooling line in the roof of the fridge ; I mounted the tower just a bit aft of center.

Is there anyway I can save the fridge? I don't think I cut the entire line, be even if I did, can't I somehow seal it up and have the remaining lines do the work?

Yeah, fucked. It will cost more to fix than a new fridge.

So, on a related note, I'm about to get a 4912 to use for fermentation temperature control. Will I need to remove the door panels to fit a 6-gallon (12" diameter) bucket in there? If so, should I just follow the doc kegerator conversion instructions v-a-v the showerboard as a replacement?
