sanitizing bottling tree ?

Mon Apr 16, 2007 9:26 am

does anyone sanitize their bottling trees while bottling?

like dipping a tree ring in star san / iodophor ,
placing it on the tree,
then placing their bottles on it.
or spraying a tree prong w/star san immediately before putting the bottle on

or is this getting into jamil-sanitization-obsession? :P

I just rinse mine with hot water and go.

I rinse mine off in the shower then use a spray bottle with StarSan.

I keep a garbage bag over mine when not in use. I use the bottle injector with Star San and figure the foam coming out of the bottle as the bottle drains should be sufficient to sanitise the tree.

I keep a spray bottle full of star san around whenever doing anything in the brewery. At the beginning of the bottling session I spray down the bottle tree. Seems to do the trick for me.

Thanks for all the replies.
I'll start rinsing and possibly dipping or spraying the tree.

Sometimes I wonder if an OCD is kicking in or if it's a rational sanitation concern

That explains the "house flavor" , no pants while brewing, not while sanitizing! :D

I do basicly the same thing without the garbage bag when not in use. I wash mine in the dishwasher before I use it.
