Questions for this Sunday's Show with Doc

Sat Mar 10, 2007 9:48 pm

  • I live in a town more than an hour from the nearest homebrew shop. There are probably other homebrewers in town, but how would you go about forming a club out here?
  • What would you consider the minimum frequency of meetings? Once a month?
  • Is it worth having a club without a local homebrew store?
  • How would you compare the benefits of having a local club to the online homebrewing community?

How do you handle drinking at club events - in regards to the liabilities if someone has an accident afterwards?

Is there an age requirement for the club?

What are the benefits of having a club?

I hear some clubs purhcase upper end brewing items so the members have the ability to use them as needed, what are the common areas of this?

You might see if the LHBS will post a flyer. Maybe post flyers at the local supermarket or something. Other than that, I got nothin'. If I were good at gathering up people to do shit I wouldn't be such a fat and lonely slob.

My club meets once a month for the official meetings but we have some commities and stuff for special projects (homebrew competition, etc.) that meet more frequently plus the occasional social gathering.

Sure, why not? Sometimes we have our meetings a local breweries too. (Can you say free beer?)

Some things are more easily done in person; tastings, demonstrating technique, giving reach arounds, etc. The online community can meet and 'chat' more frequently though. (Think of it like the difference between cyber sex and real sex)

Often times clubs will put on competitions and events so there's always that.

That shit will get you kicked the fuck out instantly. We're all adults and are expected to act accordingly. No drunk driving. (I might suggest to our club officers a club purchased breathalyzer... hmmmm)

Not that I know of but if you are not 21 you're not drinking a damn thing so I'm not sure what the point would be of joining before that.

H2 wrote:What are the benefits of having a club?
I don't have any friends that brew (though I've had them brew with me and all that shit. Makes me wonder why those sorry non-brewing bastards are still friends) Having a club gives me the benefit of hanging around other like-minded douchebags.

I think my club might be holding out on me because I've seen no upper end equipment. Just the cheap plastic blow-up doll that's been ridden more times than Greyhound.

If I drop my pants at a meeting and other members aren't cool with it, can I form a new club?

Like push I am over and hour away from a LHBS - I even think its the same one..
I have recently started a local homebrew club in the coachella Valley area of southern california. Cities include Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, Bermuda Dunes, La Quinta and Indio. Friday night we held our 3rd meeting this year and I am having a hard time finding local brewers. I have found about 8 people so far and a couple of them are snowbirds so they are only here about 1/2 of the year.. There are 2 local breweries and one of them is totally cool about supporting homebrewers. They are even willing to hang flyers and let us have meetings there.. The other brewery is high end and they dont really want to hang flyers or anything like that.

So my BIG question is can the BN help us recruit members. Can you give us a shout out for new members to join if they live around here.

If anyone is interested. Email Micah at cvhomebrewers@yahoo.com or check out our website at www.cvhomebrewers.blogspot.com

See; now that's a newbian mistake. If it were anything it would Asshat of the week. Which would be considered a minor victory. Look at Push. He's 06 equal winner of the Asshat of the Year award. And he is a BN superstar.

Besides, your $0.02 was on topic and informative.

I you wanna be an Asshat, you're gonna have to try harder than that.
