fermentation temperature controll

Tue Feb 20, 2007 7:14 am

I want to put a temperature controller probe into my carboy so I can compensate for the heat the yeast produce, not just measure and adjust ambient air temperature. I use better bottles with a 1/2 inch blow off hose, and a Johnson analog controller, inside a refrigerator. Any ideas on how to install one. There is a no pants option.

I got a thermowell from B3 and could not get the probe from my Ranco in there. no matter how I tried. Almost screwed the whole thing up. The Johnson Controller probe is even bigger and they say on the site that it will not work with it.

Also, this is the most PHALLIC post I've ever put up here...

Not to hijack the thread or anything but...

What do you guys suggest for doing this with a plastic bucket?

Anyone got any ideas on how to make the larger probes on an analog uinit work in application to accurately control the temperature of the wort durring ferment? The B3 units are kick ass but I already have a temp control device and can't justify spending more $$ on a new digital device.

Drill a bigger hole in the bucket lid and use this:

So would you use a stopper thingy like that in a conical fermenter too?

On the larger probes: if they are coated with a plastic simply sand it off. Or buy a piece of stainless tubing and make your own thermowell by cripping the end and sealing it with aquarium silicone.
