Smoked Hops???

Tue Jan 30, 2007 8:07 pm

I know that in most smoked beers they smoke the malt but i was just curious if anyone has ever heard of or made a beer with smoked hops and if not if anyone had any idea on how smoking the hops would affect the flavor?

This is just one BrewTard's opinion but I would think that smoking the hops would just burn out the essential oils and add bad flavors by burning the vegatable matter.

I think if you just smoked it at a low heat, you might be able to impart some kind of flavor in them. Give it a try and let us know what you find out. I would dry hop with them. that way you could split a batch and compare smoked and unsmoked hops.
