Oatmeal Stout

Can I use store bought oatmeal in place of flaked oats. i.e. quaker oats? I thought I saw this discussed before but I could not find it.

Thanks.

That's all I ever use. Be sure to use the Quick Oats (not the Instant) or Old Fashioned Oats. Instant oatmeal has all sorts of other stuff added plus it will turn to instant paste in your mash. Also avoid steel cut oats. Rolled oats are gelatainized during the milling process by the intense pressure of the rollers. Steel cut oats are merely chopped up. You will need to do a cereal mash on steel cut oats.
