bubbles in my carboy

Thu Jan 11, 2007 6:30 pm

I was getting ready to rack my Mead off the yeast tonight and after I drained a 5 gallon carboy I noticed it had little bubbles inside it. I started to wonder if any bacteria coud potentaly grow in these? Most are about the size of a pinhole and some are a little larger ( from .005 to .015) am I being to picky? I filled the carboy with sanitizer overnight so Im sure i cleaned it well enough. Or did I?

are the bubbles filling with liquid?
Probably not, most likely they are "within" the glass and sealed, these will be fine, they could however affect the strength of the glass so caution is advised.

Well Im going to assume that maybey some small bubbles could fill with liquid. I did learn that if Mead runs over a cut on a finger that it does burn! I cut my finger earlyer today at work.
I have alwase been very carefull with my carboys. Im just worried about infections.

You will be fine. Could they be Star San bubbles? Either way with the ABV of most mead it would be pretty hard to get it infected.

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.

Are they left hand or right hand bubbles? Left hand bubbles are REALLY bad for mead.
