Thanks Travis.

Another stupid questions: So, how many quart/gallon pot do I need to end up with 5 gallons of beer in my fermenter?

6 if you can manage it. I usually do 6.5 gallon boils to get 5.5 gallon in my fermenter. Or 11gal for 5.5 into 2 fermenters.

Lufah,

Do those frier burners do a good job?

How long to bring a 5 gallon to a boil, and do they carmelize the wort?

Thanks

I get ~6.5gal of wort to a boil in about 15min. That's from the tun so it's about 160deg. I haven't had any problems with the wort getting carmelized. They are probably not the best burners, but for the price what the hell.

Hey Dan,
I bought one of those last year for $60 on Ebay after the holidays. Mine was stainless steel, 8 gallons. Best $60 I ever spent. I don't remember the BTU rating on the burner, but it puts out way more than I need for a rolling boil of 6.3 gallons, even going from tap temperature. I turn it down once the extract goes in and haven't had observable problems with discoloration or caramelization of the wort. I haven't tried anything lighter than an amber ale though - I'll see what happens with the Koelsch I'm planning next.
On Deck:
Primary: American Amber Ale

Here's mine. It's electric.
