Hello from Nebraska

Wed Feb 20, 2013 9:23 pm

I've been listening to the show for the past few months since I got back from deployment. I actually first learned about the show from listening to the beersmith podcast when he interviewed Justin. Anyways, I'm about as new to brewing as you can get. My wife got me a Mr. Beer for Christmas and I'll be giving it a try once my household goods get delivered (we just moved from Hawaii to Nebraska...thanks Air Force). I'm looking forward to moving past the Mr. Beer and getting a kit from morebeer but figured I'd need to at least be able to figure it out from an infant level before graduating to toddler.

Welcome and thanks for your service-

A lot of us (myself included) started with Mr. Beer. It's the crack dealer of homebrewing. My wife is still pissed off at her sister for giving me that Mr. Beer kit for Christmas back in 2002.

Check out this post I made on the Realbeer.com forum a few years ago for tips on how to get decent beer out of a Mr. Beer kit.

Welcome! How are you enjoying your winter so far?

The Mr. Beer kit will hold you for a while, but you'll soon find yourself searching for new equipment. There's tons of information here and in the brewcasts to get you started.

The weather....well, it's sucking right now. They just released everyone early due to the impending snowstorm. It's not horrible right now but is expected to get about a foot tonight. Any lucky me it's supposed to snow again Sunday so maybe I'll have a four or five day weekend. Hopefully I can make it to Hyvee as they have a great selection of beer. I've got some Lucky Bucket, Sierra Nevada and a 750ml of Rogue in the fridge...should last me a day or two!

Welcome to the forum and welcome back (sorry) to the lower 48.

I'd like to second (or third or fourth) the fact that the Mr. Beer is the CRACK DEALER of homebrewing. You can make decent beer out of it, but quickly you will find yourself with a brew-sculpture in the garage, and a basement full of fermentors.

Here's to you... :jnj
