Beer Destinations in Japan

Sun Jun 14, 2009 6:03 pm

G'day B'Ners,

I'm off to Japan on July 4 (for 2 weeks) and am planning on putting in a few (well ok a lot) of beer related stops. Asahi and Sapporo of course on the list, but I am aware that there is some kind of craft brew scene in Japan and am after any tips or recomendations on where to go in Japan.

Of course we'll be going to the fish market, drinking sake and doing kareoke with Japanese business men. Also being tall and probably loud.

anyway any tips from the BN army would be greatfully appreciated.

Cheers DK

How was your Japan trip? Any good beer?
I hear there isn't much for bacon in that country. Kind of a bummer.
Keep us posted.

I've got the stopwatch out. Any takers on when Spider's head explodes?

I'm not sure about beer, but I understand the sushi is pretty good over there.

For future reference, if you're able to get some Orion beer while in Japan, it was always much better than the other Japanese staples. It's an Okinawan beer, but has some limited distribution to the mainland.

Interesting that distribution on Orion is limited to the mainland since I can get it in Ohio. As I recall, it was a sweetish, slightly tangy lager. Not great, but I'd take it over some other offerings.

Orion was prop my second favorite lager while I was over there. I enjoyed Yebisu premium, or Suntory premium for lager, But I was able to get ahold of Asahi Black every once in awhile and that was my all time favorite. Kind of a Schwarzbier style. I'll post some pictures of my Yebisu beer tour if anyone is interested.
