MCAB XVI

Thu Jan 31, 2013 4:49 pm

So I got this email this morning from MCAB XVI which stands for Masters Championship of Amateur Brewers. It is apparently the 16th annual competition that you need to qualify for by getting a 1st place in a group of competitions. Apparently my gold at the Mississippi Mashout put me in it.

Anyone heard of this before? Seemed more like an advertisement to buy t-shirts, kinda like Who's Who where you can be on the list all you have to is order a bunch of stuff from them..lol

But who knows http://www.masterhomebrewer.org/

Any thoughts or heard of it?

Jamil talked about it a couple times. Sounded like it getting invited to compete in it was a bit of an honor. If so, congrats & suck it. If not... well just suck it ;)

The two years I had entries eligible, something always came up and I either didn't have the right beer ready at the time or was out of town for too long.

It is a major deal to even be able to enter.

You've got plenty of time before you need to rebrew. I qualified at last years UMMO and the MCAB for 2012 qualifiers isn't being held until May of this year. I got my "Qualifying Brewer" shirt in December I think.

Don't forget that medal puts you in the chase for Midwest Homebrewer of the Year too!

I'm also eligible this year after taking Gold in American Ale at the New England Regional comp. I've already scheduled the brew day for this entry, which is due sometime in May.

Good luck.

The MidWinter Comp coming up later this month is also a qualifier. Hopefully on of my entries in that will qualify me for next years comp.
