True cost of Homebrew

I never diss Mr. Beer. Many of us started with Mr. Beer kits. Mr. Beer is the crack cocaine of homebrewing, and without it, I never would have started.

My wife is still pissed at her sister for giving me that Mr. Beer kit for Christmas 10 years ago.

I wonder out of all the people who receive a Mr. Beer kit, how much they get used. I'd bet there are some that get given to people that never get into it and don't use it, and a bunch that get used for less than 5 batches before their owners move to 5 gallon batches, but probably few that used it hardcore for a long period of time... For those guys that did start with Mr. Beer, just interested but how many batches did you do on that system?

Less like the crack cocaine and more like the first couple times you see boobs on the internet. Catches your interest, makes you want to see more, and pretty soon you're into the real freaky shit.

I too started with a similar kit received as a christmas gift. It wasn't Mr. Beer branded, but essentially the same. 1 batch before I discovered the bags of Munton's DME at a local shop.

I too started on Mr beer no problems with it, it is what it is I haveafeva total of 3 batches using that system, it only took once before I switched to all grain... Kinda by accident though cuz I ordered the wrong kit from a brew store, seem dumb to waste it lol, I did the other two later because I had already purchased them and didn't want it to go waste, but again mr beer is great for what if is, a very easy learning tool and can propell you to want to know more

Swilling PBR never required a HERMS coil, mash tun, pump, conicals, corker or 37 thermometers. It did require a non-discerning palette & an iron gut however.

My wife bought me a Mr. Beer kit in 2004 for my birthday. I did 3-4 batches on it before I switched to five gallon batches, extract at first and not too much later all grain. 8 years later I think she has reconsidered the wisdom of that gift many times.

I probably did 30 or so batches in mine before I switched.
Steeping grains, Even did some mini-mashes, etc before I made the switch.
