cleaning stainless pot

Got a 9 gal stainless pot. Are Stainless Scrub Pads recommended for cleaning stainless pots?

Want to make sure I'm not using any kind of cleansers or scrubbers that will damage the pot over time

unless you need to clean burned on debris, or blued/browned heat damage, a green scrubber will get the job done just fine. i like to use bar keepers friend and a newish green scrubber or a stainless scrubby once every 6 mos or so on the bottom of my keggle to clean the flame discoloring off. the inside, i clean with BKF once in a while since i have a few spots from slag when i cut the top out and it can rust on me.

recommended by whom?
I have SST scrubbies just for getting the hard crap off my brewing pots. But you could also use an abrasive flapper wheel in a hand drill or scotch-brites or a plastic scrubbie or abrasive paper, or a poly brush or a rag or your fingernails or a brass or wire brush or those brass scrubbies. Hell you could even get a SST or brass wire brush for a hand drill.

The only items I can think of that I'd dis-recommended would be anything with soap charged in it or anything made from any material that can rust.

Soap is to be avoided because it'll ruin head retention
Oxy Free is pretty good stuff and cheapo too
Avoid muriatic acid coz It'll cause flash rusting and if you do get rust, use Citric acid to strip it away and passivate the SST
HEY~!! It's a hobby~!! It's NOT supposed to make sense~!!

After my initial cleaning of my keggles which may have included all sorts of things like grinders and flapper wheels to clean up the plasma cut edge, BKF and maybe even some acid to remove beer stone, I passivated with Citrisurf 77. After that, nothing but white scrubbies and PBW. I don't want to scratch the surfaces, which green scrubbies and stainless scrubbies will do.

The more scratched and abraded the surface is, the more likely that things will end up sticking there in the future. I just use PBW and a nylon bristled brush. As long as it's pretty good, it'll be fine. You are boiling it after all.

How about Barkeeper's Friend? I tend to use a SS scrubbie for the beerstone ever once in a while. Usually I just use a toilet bowl brush. Yes, one that is specific to the brewery.

I use Barkeepers Friend(BKF). It was recommend on Brew Strong. My kettle always looks like new when I'm done. I use it all over the house now. Works great on the Corian counters and on copper also. I use it on my beer glasses to get rid of the hard water stains.

+2 love bkf The oxalic acid in it do a nice job of keeping beerstone at bay and repasivating all in one step.
