First all grain coming up

Me and Milt will be brewing our first all grain this weekend. I got to watch an all grain batch Sunday and want to do it right away while it is still fresh in my thick head.

I have two converted kegs and an ice chest mash tun. What I do not have is anything very fancy to put them on so the liquids can gravity flow. The great thing about being a farmer is I have a little know how when it comes to welding and a considrable scrap pile north of the house. My project for the day is to rig up a tiered table of some sort to sit the kegs and cooler on. I have a dual burner propane cooker that I will take apart for the burners and hoses and such. I am going to set it all up and try it with just water before Saturday.

That how to brew book is a wonderful resource. A lot of that is over my head at this time, but I have read that book cover to cover. It kept me from going crazy in Montana. I would have Milt read it but I am not sure he knows how to.

If it works and makes good beer is all that matters. Mine will not be pretty. There is only so much you can do with a cutting torch a grinder and a stick welder. I just want it to be sturdy. Speaking of which I need to shut this thing off and get busy.

So two extract batches, then the jump to all grain... now you are building your own sculpture. And you just started with this hobby a few weeks ago. You two are the poster children for the reason people call us obsessed!

I got lazy. I looked at Bub's outfit and decided temporary is OK for now. If and when we get the chicken coop brew house built we will probably put in something more permanent. I think we should call the place the brew coop. Anyway I figured out how to get everything tiered correct so it will drain and I didn't have to tear my double burner propane cooker apart. Yet. It's not pretty and I did have to build a box to put on my work bench for the single burner to sit on. It was still easier than cutting and welding a bunch of rusty old steel. It would be better on a warmer day.

I am off to town to do some chores. A week away and some stuff really piles up. Maybe I will go by Milt's job and make fun of him. They are insulating today. Milt loves insulation.
