Stainless Insert

Sun Oct 30, 2011 6:52 pm

Looking for help with some equipment that may be hard to find. I am developing a design for a M/T that uses a stainless insert and allows for water to flow around it to help control temp and make for a better environment than plastic to mash in. I have hit some of the restuarant supply sites and they have just standard sizes. Anyone got any ideas for a source for this?
Thanks Blunt

Could you be a little more specific what you are looking for? Are you looking for some sort of kettle or some type of insert? What size and geometry for this item?

Holy F You guys are getting to it tonight. Thanks for the reply. My current M/T would hold a 8x14x10 inch insert but I'm willing to upgrade to a larger cooler/warmer if I can find stainless insert that will fit it.

Is this the type of thing you are looking for? http://www.cookware.com/Paderno-World-C ... S4972.html There is a list at the bottom of the page for a number of different sizes.

For a larger range of sizes, try this. http://www.cookware.com/Paderno-World-C ... S4970.html

If the holes are too large, you can line the insert with stainless steel screen.

Sounds like a jacketed vessel, much like the current commercial fermenters, that have a glycol outer jacket to control ferm temps. You could use a commercial SS filter vessel, but would need separate ports for the wort side vs. temp controlled liquid side for warming fluid assumed to control mash temps. Why not a RIMS or HERMS system? Or, build one based on kegs and kettles already available or lean on a good fab shop.

Ever think of army surplus? If you lucky you could get an old/surplus steam kettle and just use it with liquid instead of steam. The other perk is it should be fairly cheap.

Thanks for the info, looks like its what I was looking for. The design is basically a jacketed M/T but being cheap and having a desire to build stuff out of things that I already have leads me to do this stuff alot. Plus brewing with something that I didn't have a hand in building just wouldn't seem right.
