is asking for a fire or just a bit less bad, a tripped breaker on the fridge.

If I were doing the "bulb in a can" thing I dont think I'd go over a 25watt bulb.

I was thinking the same thing. That plan is so unsafe. Why not just use a heatwrap in the enclosure?

You could always use a grounded cord, and a tripped breaker would be possible with any auxiliary heat source. I've been using a drop light with a 50W bulb for four years; no problems...

Yeah, the light bulb in a paint can made me shudder a bit. Then I started looking at what I have set up and noticed it is not too different....but mine is plugged through the temp controller which is plugged into a gfi outlet. Still...

I'm gonna look into the ceramic heater idea. Probably a little more sturdy than a light bulb anyway.

An old waterbed heater wrapped around a carboy works great and is cheap as chips, too.
